Mwenifuvya village constructed the greatest number of wells in 1996. The villages under Group Village Headman Mwenifuvya built 6 wells. In addition, they had the most skilled builder that I had worked with, which resulted in pretty, as well as functional, wells. In the foreground of this picture is a washing slab. We encouraged every village to build a washing slab with their well to provide an alternative to doing laundry in the streams. The streams were widely infected with schistosomiasis (bilharzia), a parasitic infection.
